January 4th 2024- Right Handed Pitcher Edward Cuello re-signs with The Gary South Shore RailCats. This will be his 3rd season with the ‘Cats.
Looking at his 2023 season stats. Cuello had a record of 4-11, pitched in 20 games, and started all 20 games. He had an ERA of 5.45 and an ERC of 5.30. He had a complete game on July 13th against the Kane County Cougars. Yes, it was a doubleheader game, so it was only 7 innings. Nevertheless, it is counted as a complete game. He pitched 115.2 innings, gave up 131 hits, 74 runs, 70 earned, 19 home runs, and walked 39. He had 2 intentional walks and also hit 5 batters. He struck out 73 batters. His WHIP was 1.470, H/9 10.2, HR/9 1.5, walks/9 3, and SO/9 5.7
Looking at his best start of the year was on August 12th against The Kane County Cougars. He was awarded with the win as he pitched 8 innings, gave up 1 run (that was earned), 3 hits, 3 walks, while striking out 7, which was his season high and tied his career high in the American Association. He struck out 7 on August 12th, 2022, against the Milkmen.
I’m glad to see Edward Cuello back in the Green and White. He was much improved from last year, dropping his ERA by almost 3. Now, in 2022 he only played in 11 games due to an early-season injury. Knowing what he did in a full season healthy, there is much upside and stability with him on the mound. I think his record would have been closer to a 500 record, but with the lack of offensive production from the RailCats, most of the pitchers’ record wasn’t very good. Cuello has good upside and also seems to have a smile on his face when he isn’t on the mound. Depending on who all gets signed on the pitching staff, he will more and likely be the Ace of the team.
