On January 4th Marcos re-signs after being a late siging in 2023. He signed with The RailCats last season on August 5th. He replaced Victor Nova, who was a suprise release to me but when I found out he had poor work ethic I understood. Work ethic is something Marcos looks like he has.
Marcos played in 26 games last year. He had 95 At-Bats, scored 10 runs, had 23 hits, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 3 Home runs, 11 RBIs, 9 walks, and struck out 24 times. His Batting Average was .242, .327 OBP, .400 SLG, .727 OPS. Defensively he played most of his games at 3rd base (22). He also played at 2nd base (4) and shortstop for 1 game. He had 3 errors for a Fielding % of .952.
His best performance was on August 16th in a loss to the Lake Country Dockhounds. He went 2-4, scored 2 runs, had 2 RBIs, 1 triple, and a 2-run home run.
With a small sample size it’s hard to figure out what to expect from Marcos. But this is what I can see from Gonzalez. He has the Affiliate experience as he has time in Triple-A and Double-A. He has the power to be a good middle of the lineup hitter. I would say he would probably rotate from 3rd in the lineup to 5th or 6th. Unless Marriaga doesn’t come back, Marcos would fit the cleanup role as a hitter. I like that he can play basically anywhere in the infield. Unlike Nova, he has a much stronger arm. I could see Gonzalez hitting around 17-20 home runs and having a SLG % around .350. I look forward to seeing him play a full season with the RailCats.
