RailCats Talk

For RailCats Fans, By A RailCat Fan

Daniel Vitriago

On January 26th, 2024 The RailCats re-signed Left-Handed Pitcher Daniel Vitriago, who was traded to the RailCats from Billings (Pioneer League) on August 14th, 2023 for a player to be named later.

Vitriago played 6 games last year had 1 start and a record of 0-2. He had an ERA of 7.94 in 11.1 innings pitched, He struck out 15 walked 2 gave up 17 hits and 5 homeruns. He gave up 11 runs and 10 were earned. His Batting Average Against was .347, Had a WHIP of 1.68, H/9 13.5, HR/9 4, BB/9 1.6, SO/9 11.9. His first strike percentage was 66 %.

Only playing in 6 games Daniel Vitriago’s stats were a tad bit inflated due to a bad start against the Chicago Dogs and a relief appearance against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Really, it was the start against the Dogs that bit him (No pun intended as the Dogs are a Hot Dog). Vitriago gave up 7 runs on 10 hits in 4.1 innings pitched. Looking at his opponents, he faced Fargo and Chicago twice, and Milwaukee and Lake Country once.

A small size for Vitriago but outside of the start and relief appearance, he pitched really well. I would say the 5 Homeruns hi gave up in 11.1 Innings would be something he would want to work on, yet small sample size. Overall thought Vitriago can really help the bullpen in keeping the line moving for the back end of the bullpen, an arm that is reliable that could have a spot start from time to time. Welcome Back Daniel Vitriago!
