Peyton Long
Peyton Long is a right-handed pitcher who is 26 years old, 6’4″, and weighs 210 lbs. He was born in West Des Moines, Iowa, and played college ball at Central Methodist in Fayette, Missouri. He was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 30th round of the 2019 draft. He played 2 years in the Brewers organization before being released. Last year, Long played for the Rocky Mountain in the Pioneer League.
Looking at his 2 years in the Minors, Peyton played in 34 games and started in 4. His record was 4-4, and he had an ERA of 6.05. He pitched 77.1 innings, giving up 92 hits, 55 runs (52 earned), and 9 home runs. He walked 29 while striking out 68. He also hit 7 batters and earned 1 save. Peyton’s WHIP was 1.565, H/9 was 10.7, HR/9 was 1, BB/9 was 3.4, and SO/9 was 7.9. The season he spent in Single-A was his rough year, where he was mostly a relief pitcher and had an ERA of 8.39.
Looking at his 2023 season with the Rocky Mountain Vibes, Peyton played in 19 games and started in 18 of them. He had an ERA of 5.96 and 1 complete game. He pitched 99.2 Innings. Peyton gave up 127 hits, 73 runs (66 Earned), and 9 Homeruns. He walked 43 and Struck out 67. His WHIP was 1.706, H/9 11.5, HR/9 .8, Walks/9 3.9, and SO/9 6.1.
Outside of the 2021 season where he played in Single-A, Peyton’s stats look really good. In College, he had an ERA of 2.33 and The Rookie ball season his ERA was 4.19 but he only started in 4 games, and the rest of the 8 games were as a reliever. It’s a little hard to judge the stats from the Pioneer League because of the elevation some of the teams play in, but the two big stats that jump out from the last season are that he gave up only 9 Homeruns in 99.2 Innings and he started in 18 games. Having a lower homeruns given up total is huge for the RailCats pitching staff, and having a starter that can give you innings is something the RailCats desperately need. I can see Peyton being on the top part of the rotation. WELCOME TO THE SOUTH SHORE!!!
