RailCats Talk

For RailCats Fans, By A RailCat Fan

No Bases Are Safe!

Gio Diaz re-signed with the RailCats on March 29th. This will be his 2nd year with the RailCats, but his 3rd year in Independent Baseball. He played with the Rocky Mountain Vibes of the Frontier League in 2022 and has just come back from the Mexican League. I do not have those stats as one, I can’t read or speak Spanish. I wasn’t sure if we were going to see Gio back in the South Shore.

Looking at Gio’s 2023 season, he played in 94 games and had 360 At-Bats, scoring 75 runs. He had 115 hits, 19 doubles, 3 triples, 33 RBIs, 33 Walks, 16 Hit by Pitches, and struck out 40 times. He had a Team Leading .319 batting average. He also had a Franchise Single Season record-breaking 37 stolen bases. He had a .400 OBP, .406 SLG, and .806 OPS. He had a .994 Fielding%, and he committed 7 errors. He played 2 games at 3rd, 47 games at 2nd, 5 games at Center Field, 26 Games at Left Field, and 4 games at Shortstop.

I reached out to Gio after he signed back with the RailCats, and he said he was excited to come back and he feels like he really found his game and is ready to show what he can do in 2024. Here is the interesting thing going into 2024 – it is not a matter of if Gio is going to play; it’s more of where he is going to play. He mostly played 2nd, and I would say that’s where he feels more comfortable, but if he needs to fill the Shortstop role, he would be the player that would be able to do that. He should be the lead-off hitter with his ability to get on base, and with his speed, it seems like a no-brainer.

This roster got a whole lot heavier with this addition of Gio. WELCOME BACK TO THE SOUTH SHORE!!
