Kyle’s 10 Observation

RailCats win 5-1

19-28 5th in the East

  1. Chris Erwin arguably had his best outing as a RailCats this season. He went 7 innings, giving up 1 run (which was an unearned run), and only allowed 2 hits. He also issued 5 walks but achieved a season high in strikeouts with 8.
  2. Chris Erwin hasn’t given up an earned run in four straight starts, allowing only 9 hits, and 18 strikeouts.
  3. Chris Erwin and Cooper Edwards have great chemistry, which dates back to when they played for the Black Sox, a traveling baseball team (Andrew Mild is the one who talked about it on the broadcast).
  4. Cooper Edwards has started in the last 2 games. This could be because on Sunday Lamarr wanted to give Guillermo Quintana a break since Saturday was hot, and Erwin has a better chemistry with Edwards. Or could it be because Quintana is in Lamarr’s doghouse? After Saturday, when Quintana stood in the middle of a rundown instead of getting out of the way, which led to the Goldeyes scoring a run and after the inning, Lamarr met Quintana at the top step and ripped into him, it seemed Quintana didn’t take it well.
  5. Miguel Sierra returned to the lineup after missing part of the Kane County and fully missing the Goldeyes series due to an injury during the June 26th Kane County game. He went 2 for 3 with a solo home run, his 4th of the year, to open the scoring in the 3rd.
  6. Gio Diaz continues his hit streak to 7 and his on-base percentage to 12 after going 1-3 with an RBI tonight. He is having an outstanding homestand, with a batting average of .392, scoring 4 runs, 5 RBIs, and an OBP of .437, while striking out only once.
  7. LG Castillo is also having a stellar homestand. Tonight, he went 1-4, scoring 1 run, 1 RBI, and 2 strikeouts. On this homestand, he is batting .407, with 11 hits, scoring 5 runs, and having 11 RBIs.
  8. This series is significant for the RailCats. With the Dockhounds losing to Cleburne, the RailCats go back to being 5th in the East. If the RailCats were to sweep the Milkmen, they would only be 3 games back from the last playoff spot. Also, Chicago lost both games in a doubleheader against Sioux Falls tonight.
  9. This was the first game the Railcats held an opponent to 3 runs or fewer since the first game of the Kane County Series to start the homestand.
  10. A great bounce-back win where everything was clicking, and they did it in front of a lively SteelYard crowd!!
