RailCats Talk

Kyle’s 10 Observations

RailCats Win 7-4

20-30

6th in the East (If Dockhounds lose then 5th)

  1. Jackson Valera was ejected for, I believe, the 4th time this year. After arguing with the 1st base umpire over a Bissonette check swing that Nunez said Bissonette didn’t swing at. That stemmed from Jose Contreras getting rung up on a checked swing. Personally, I feel like that wasn’t the time to argue. Sanabria shook off the call and was in a very good groove, moving at a fast pace, and Valera had to slow it down. Now, Sanabria gave up 2 walks in that inning but was able to get 3 K’s in that inning.
  1. Miguel Sierra extended his hitting streak to 6 games with a double in the 3rd inning and has reached base safely in 9 consecutive games.
  1. Carlos Sanabria pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the 1st, his second time doing so this year in the opening inning, and his 4th time keeping a team off the score sheet in the 1st inning. This is his 11th start of the year, by far his best of the year.
  1. RailCats exploded for 3 runs in the 3rd. All runs came from doubles, and all hits in that inning were doubles with 4. Gio Diaz, Francisco Del Valle, and Howard Rodriguez (who came in for the ejected Valera) all hit RBI doubles, and Miguel Sierra, Gio Diaz, and Francisco Del Valle all scored.
  1. The RailCats exhibited a timely scoring ability in this game, a quality that had been noticeably absent in their last two series against Winnipeg and Milwaukee.
  2. Carlos Sanabria’s performance was a mixed bag, as he pitched 4.2 innings, conceding 3 runs on 4 hits, walking 6, and striking out 4. Despite being on track for a potential win, the Monarchs managed to equalize the game in the 5th inning. It’s worth noting that a challenging bounce off a divot affected Jose Contreras’ attempt to make a play, highlighting the field’s condition.
  3. The condition of Legends Field left much to be desired, with persisting dead spots in the outfield and an infield reminiscent of a little league field. This contrast emphasized the commendable efforts of Noah Harder and his team in maintaining the impeccable appearance of the SteelYard.
  4. The RailCats staged a comeback in the 6th inning, with LG Castillo’s single prompting an errant throw from Goddard that allowed Castillo to advance to 3rd. Subsequently, Guillermo Quintana’s RBI single enabled the team to reclaim a 4-3 lead.
  5. Building on their lead, the RailCats scored 3 more runs in the 7th inning, demonstrating a strong collective performance with RBI contributions from Del Valle, Gonzalez, and Quintana. The Monarchs secured a solitary run in the 8th, resulting in a final score of 7-4. Casey Grimm secured the win, with Nate Alexander notching his 4th save of the year.
  6. With this victory, the RailCats celebrated their 20th win of the year, improving to a 20-30 record. The team has the opportunity to clinch both the 3-game series and the season series with a win in the upcoming game. This comprehensive team effort is especially encouraging considering the decline of Kansas City’s performance, as they now find themselves out of a playoff spot and mired in a 3-game losing streak.
