RailCats Lose 9-1
20-34
6th in the East
- Peyton Long keeps the Canaries off the board in the 1st inning. Long breaks a 3-game streak of allowing an opposing team to score at least 1 run and breaks the 3-game streak of allowing 3 or more runs in the 1st inning.
- In the 6th inning, the Canaries opened up the scoring when Josh Rehwadlt hit a towering home run that Peyton Long threw on the inside corner.
- Jackson Valera breaks up Ryan Zimmerman’s perfect game in the 8th with a double to right. He extends his hit streak to 6!
- Guillermo Quintana helps the RailCats avoid being shut out when he drives in Jackson Valera with a single. Quintana also extends his hit streak to 5, marking his 17th RBI of the year.
- Peyton Long had a great outing, going 6 innings, giving up 1 home run, 7 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 4. He gave up a solo home run to Josh Rehwaldt in the 6th. It was pitched on the inside corner, and Josh just turned on it and never looked back. It’s just a shame he would end up with the loss, since the offense only scored 1 run. It would have been a no decision, but Joan Valdez would give up 3 runs in the 7th.
- Peyton Long has been a road warrior this year. He has pitched 31.1 innings and has given up 5 runs, 4 of which were earned, resulting in an impressive ERA of 1.14. If he could duplicate that performance at the SteelYard, he would have an impressive year on top of a really good year so far.
- Joan Valdez had his worst outing this year, going 1 inning and giving up 3 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks. This would be the first time since May 30th that he would give up an earned run, and his first time all year giving up more than 1 run.
- Sioux Falls’ Ryan Zimmerman pitched a complete game, giving up only 1 run on 3 hits, 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts. He had the RailCats’ batters all over the place, inducing 6 pop outs and weak contact all night.
- The RailCats batters were very aggressive in this game. I didn’t see a lot of patience and saw them swinging at a lot of junk. Yes, Zimmerman had a stellar game, but the RailCats really contributed to that as Zimmerman threw 105 pitches in 9 innings.
- The Railcats had a really good game going pitching-wise, and the bats were about to come out, only trailing by 1 in the 6th. However, after the bullpen fell apart in the 7th and 8th, it turned the game ugly, and the RailCats would lose their 4th straight game 9-1. With this loss, they have lost 4 straight series, being outscored 38-9 in the last 4 games. The ‘Cats are now 20-34 on the season and are really starting to lose ground in the playoff race, and we aren’t even at the All-Star break.
