Jaykob Acosta is 23 years old, 6-2 and 190 lbs. He is from Tulare, California. He is a right-handed relief pitcher with some starting appearances. He attended CSU Bakersfield from 2020 to 2022 and played his Junior and Senior years at Fresno State. At CSU, he received Academic All-Big honors. At Fresno State, he earned Academic All-Mountain West honors in 2023 and 2024. He also received the Mountain West Scholar-Athlete award in 2023 and 2024. Additionally, he was a Mountain West Champion in 2024.
Looking at his college stats. He had a record of 7-14. He started in 19 games out of 68 games played. His ERA was 5.51, pitched in 176.1 innings, gave up 205 hits, 134 runs, 108 of which were earned runs, 14 home runs, walked 78 batters, hit 32 batters, and struck out 143. His WHIP was 1.605. H/9 of 10.5, HR/9 of 0.7, BB/9 of 4, SO/9 of 7.3, and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 1.83.
In high school, he was a three-sport athlete, playing baseball, basketball, and football. He holds the record for the longest touchdown reception in school history, at 93 yards.
At this point in the season, I am all for picking up college players to get them professional league experience. I enjoy seeing the high strikeout-to-walk ratio. In his senior year at Fresno State, he struck out 50 and only walked 19. He is young but looks to have good stuff, just a matter of honing in those pitches.
WELCOME TO THE SOUTHSHORE Jaykob Acosta
